Privacy policy

Last updated: 2026-06-16

In plain terms

This site sets no cookies and tracks nobody across sites. It uses a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics tool (Counter.dev) that counts visits without identifying you. It does not advertise and has no contact form. When you visit, the host (GitHub Pages) records your IP address in its server logs to deliver the page and keep the service secure. If you email me, I read and keep your message so I can reply.

That is the whole picture. The detail below explains it in the terms the law (the GDPR) uses.

Controller

The controller responsible for processing personal data through this website, within the meaning of Article 4(7) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), is:

Controller
Oleksandr Petrenko, trading as OP Scientific
Place of business
Vienna, Austria. Full postal address available on request by email.

There is no statutory obligation to appoint a data protection officer, and none has been appointed. For any question about your data, write to the email address above.

What data is processed, why, and on what legal basis

Server logs (handled by the host)

This is a static site hosted on GitHub Pages. When you open a page, your browser sends technical data to the host, which records it in server logs. This typically includes:

Purpose: to deliver the website to you and to protect the service against misuse and attacks. Legal basis: Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, the legitimate interest in operating a functioning and secure website. This processing is carried out by the host, GitHub, Inc. (see recipients below). I have no separate analytics layer and do not combine these logs with any other data.

Email you send me

The only way to contact me through this site is by email. If you write to me, I receive and store the content of your message together with your email address and any other details you choose to include.

Purpose: to read, answer and where needed follow up on your enquiry. Legal basis: Article 6(1)(b) GDPR where your message concerns a contract or steps taken at your request before entering one, otherwise Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, the legitimate interest in responding to enquiries addressed to me. Please send only the personal data that is necessary for your enquiry.

Fonts

All fonts used on this site are self-hosted on this domain. No Google Fonts and no external font content delivery network are used, so opening a page transfers no data to any font provider.

Analytics

This site uses Counter.dev, a privacy-focused, open-source analytics service hosted in the European Union (Germany), to understand roughly how many people visit and which pages they read. Counter.dev sets no cookies, does not track you across other websites, and does not store your IP address; it derives an anonymous, daily-rotating visit count and keeps no profile of you. Only aggregate, non-identifying statistics are collected.

Purpose: to measure overall reach and improve the content. Legal basis: Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, the legitimate interest in understanding aggregate usage in a privacy-preserving way. Because no cookies are set and no personal profile is built, no consent banner is required.

Recipients and processors

I do not sell or rent personal data and do not share it for advertising. Personal data is disclosed only where it is technically necessary to run the site or where I am legally required to disclose it.

The site is hosted by GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA, which acts as a processor for the hosting and processes server-log data as described above. GitHub's privacy practices are set out in its own privacy statement.

Aggregate visit statistics are processed by Counter.dev as described under Analytics above. No cookies are set and no personal profile is created.

Transfer to a third country

Because the host is based in the United States, the server-log processing described above may involve a transfer of personal data to the USA, a country outside the European Economic Area. GitHub relies on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) under Article 46(2)(c) GDPR as the safeguard for such transfers. No other third-country transfer takes place through this site.

Retention

Server logs are kept by the host for the period set out in its own policy and only as long as needed for delivery and security; I have no access to extend or shorten that period. Emails you send me are kept for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any follow-up, and thereafter for as long as a statutory retention duty applies (for example commercial or tax record-keeping under Austrian law). Once a record is no longer needed and no retention duty applies, it is deleted.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the following rights in respect of your personal data:

To exercise any of these rights, email me at oleksandr@opscientific.eu. Exercising them is free of charge in normal cases.

Right to lodge a complaint

If you consider that the processing of your personal data infringes the GDPR, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. The competent authority in Austria is:

Authority
Österreichische Datenschutzbehörde (Austrian Data Protection Authority)
Address
Barichgasse 40-42, 1030 Wien, Austria

No automated decision-making

No automated decision-making, including profiling, within the meaning of Article 22 GDPR takes place on this website. Your data is not used to evaluate, score or make decisions about you by automated means.
